Is tipping customary in Tenerife?

Tipping in Spain (including Tenerife) is appreciated but not obligatory or expected in the way it is in the US. There is no social pressure and waiting staff are paid a proper wage. That said, leaving a small tip is always welcome.

A common approach is to round up the bill or leave small change — €1–2 on a coffee and pastry, 5–10% at sit-down restaurants for good service. Nobody will be offended if you do not tip.

In tourist-heavy areas you may find suggested gratuity on card machines — ignore these. In local Canarian restaurants, a small cash tip left on the table is the traditional way to express appreciation.

For taxis, rounding up to the nearest euro is common. For hotel staff who have been especially helpful (porters, concierge), €1–2 per service is appropriate. Tour guides generally expect a tip of €5–10 per person for a full-day tour.
