Swimming in the natural volcanic pools of El Caletón is magical — warm, calm water surrounded by black rock. The town of Garachico itself is charming, with a lovely promenade and great seafood. Our favourite afternoon of the trip.

The most elegant beach we visited. Soft golden sand, gentle waves, and the promenade lined with upscale spots. A bit of a premium vibe with the big hotels behind, but totally worth it for a relaxed luxury day.

Pure luxury — sprawling gardens, multiple pools and impeccable service. The breakfast buffet is the best we've had at any resort. You pay for it, but for a special anniversary it was absolutely worth it.

A serene, sophisticated retreat in Puerto de la Cruz. The botanical gardens around the pool are breathtaking and the spa is world-class. Quiet, elegant and wonderfully calm — ideal for couples.

Beautiful black-sand beach tucked between volcanic rocks with a lovely subtropical garden behind it. The water is cooler than the south, but the setting is far more interesting. Cute cafés on the top level.

Loro Parque is genuinely world-class — the orca show is breathtaking and the tropical gardens are lush. It can get busy with coach tours, so arrive early. The penguinarium alone is worth the entrance fee.

A quiet local beach just outside Santa Cruz — mostly Canarian families and locals, which is exactly why we loved it. The rocky reefs offshore make for fun snorkelling and the seafront cafés are proper local spots, not tourist traps.
