A sheltered beach with calm waters, ideal for families with young children. The bay is protected from strong winds, making it one of the safest beaches on the island — water is shallow for a long way out and lifeguards watch over the main stretch through summer. A palm-lined promenade connects the sand to the lively harbour, with kiosks, showers and plenty of shaded spots for a day by the sea. Come early if you want a spot close to the water; on weekends it fills with local families who know exactly how good this beach is.

JAJakub NowakSheltered, calm and spotless. I spent three afternoons here with a book and a cold mojito from a beach shack. The sand gets busy near the pier, but walk ten minutes along the water and you get space to yourself.

Quick morning swim before catching the ferry to La Gomera.
