Tips for attending Santa Cruz Carnival?
Planning to attend the Santa Cruz Carnival in February. Any tips on where to stay, what events to attend, and how to make the most of it? Is it suitable for families?

Book your accommodation at least 6 months ahead — Santa Cruz fills up completely during carnival and prices triple or more. Hotels in La Laguna (15 minutes by tram) can be a more affordable option.
The election of the Carnival Queen (Gala de la Reina) is a spectacular event held in the Recinto Ferial. Tickets are not expensive but sell out quickly. The costumes are absolutely breathtaking — some take a year to create.
The main outdoor stages on Avenida Anaga are free and run until sunrise. The atmosphere is completely safe and family-friendly during the day — children in costumes are very much part of the tradition.
Wear a costume! Even a simple mask or wig is enough to feel part of it. The Canarian people are incredibly welcoming during carnival and you will have a much better experience if you make the effort to dress up.
