Rent a car or use buses?
Visiting for 10 days and not sure whether to rent a car or rely on public transport. We plan to visit Teide, Masca, and explore the north. Is the bus network good enough or do we need a car?

For Teide and the main tourist spots, the bus network is adequate and quite good. However for Masca and the more remote northern villages, a car is much easier. You will waste a lot of time waiting for buses to remote spots.
Rent a car for at least half your stay. The freedom it gives you is incredible — you can stop at viewpoints, explore small villages and visit places no bus reaches. Roads in Tenerife are well-maintained and signage is clear.
If budget is a concern, use buses for the first few days to get your bearings, then rent a car for 4–5 days for the more adventurous excursions. Pre-book online with companies like Cicar or Record which have good reputations locally.
One thing to note: parking in Santa Cruz city centre can be frustrating. If you are spending a day in the capital, take the bus. But for the national park and the Anaga massif, a car is essential.
