Santa Cruz Carnival

Location: Santa Cruz de Tenerife
One of the largest carnivals in the world after Rio, Santa Cruz Carnival fills the streets with elaborate costumes, live music, dancing and the election of the Carnival Queen. Declared a Festival of International Tourist Interest by Spain, it is currently a candidate for UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage status.

Made it to the Gala de la Reina this year — the costumes were unbelievable.

Nothing prepares you for how loud and colourful this carnival is — we booked our hotel 8 months ahead and it still wasn't cheap.
