Tenerife in May: Día de Canarias, Ironman and Street Festivals
Día de Canarias
30 May is Día de Canarias, the islands' own day — a public holiday of concerts, folk dancing, craft markets and the traditional dishes you'll find in the local food guide. It's the best single day to experience Canarian identity — and the Guanche history page explains what is actually being celebrated.
The Ironman 70.3
The IRONMAN 70.3 Tenerife (23 May) brings thousands of triathletes and spectators to the south coast for a swim, bike and run around Costa Adeje — an electric weekend for athletes and watchers alike, building on the April spring form.
Street festivals
Early May, MUECA fills Puerto de la Cruz with street theatre, circus and live arts. Late May, the FICMEC environmental film festival screens nature documentaries across the north. The same week, Granadilla de Abona holds its Fiestas Mayores (29 May) — a big south-coast village celebration.
Perfect spring weather
The best time to visit guide calls May the start of the high season for a reason — warm, dry and not yet crowded. Fill the days with the things to do list, book somewhere to stay early for the Ironman weekend, and the how many days plan still fits neatly.
