Golf in Tenerife: 10 Reasons It Is Europe's Year-Round Fairway

Golfers know Tenerife the way skiers know the Alps: mild winters, courses that never close, and a surprising density of good design on one island. It is the rare destination where a January round needs only a polo shirt, and where the sea appears on every other hole.

Where the courses are

Almost all of the island's courses sit in the sunny south, strung along the coast between Playa de las Américas and Golf del Sur:

Why Tenerife works for golf

Three things make the island stand out:

  1. Climate — with average winter highs around 21°C and summer around 28°C, there is no closed season. The best time to visit is also the best time to play: winter sun without the crowds of summer.
  2. Value — green fees are a fraction of northern Europe's, especially in spring and autumn, and many courses offer free buggies before 10:00.
  3. Logistics — the courses cluster around the south resorts, so you can stay on the coast and drive to the tee in under 20 minutes with a rental car.

Where to stay

For a pure golf holiday, base yourself at one of the courses above — all three hotels have spa and pools, so non-golfing partners are happy too. The where to stay guide covers the areas in detail, and the budget travel page has tips for saving on green fees.

Practical notes

Book tee times two or three days ahead in high season, and pack sun cream even in December — the UV at 28°N is stronger than it feels. Clubs can be hired at every course, so travelling light is easy. A round typically runs €50–90, with twilight rates cheaper. If you play often, ask about the island's multi-course passes.
