Romantic Tenerife: Sunset Spots, Dinners for Two and Boutique Stays

For all its family-friendly reputation, Tenerife hides a seriously romantic side: volcanic sunsets that set the sky on fire, a Michelin-starred restaurant with sea views, and a handful of boutique hotels designed for two. Here is how couples should spend their days — and their evenings.

Sunsets worth planning around

  • Mirador de Jardina — an eagle's-nest viewpoint above La Laguna with the island's most famous sunset panorama over the south coast.
  • Mirador Humboldt — a quiet terrace named after the naturalist, with a sweeping view of the Teide valley at golden hour.
  • Mirador La Garanona — off the beaten track in the north-east, framed by pine forest and the sea far below.
  • Mirador de Benijo — the photographers' favourite: the dramatic north coast at dusk, ocean, cliffs and wild waves. See our viewpoints guide for more.

Dinner for two

Tenerife's dining scene is better than its reputation. El Rincón de Juan Carlos in Los Gigantes holds two Michelin stars and a tasting menu built around the sea — book a month ahead for the sunset seating. For a low-key version of romance, pack a picnic and walk the Masca valley in the morning, then eat fish in a fishing village at dusk.

Boutique stays

The classic romantic day

Start late, drive to a north-coast viewpoint for coffee, take a slow lunch, and finish with the Teide sunset cable-car tour — watching the sun drop below the cloud sea from above the volcano is the single most romantic thing on the island. For more on bases and areas, our where to stay guide splits the island by mood.
