What is August like in Tenerife?

August is peak high season: the best time to visit guide shows it's one of the hottest and busiest months. Daytime highs reach 29–31°C on the south coast, the sea is at its warmest (~24°C), and school holidays across Europe fill the resorts. Expect full beaches by mid-morning, busier roads and higher hotel prices.

Where the crowds go — and where they don't

The southern resorts fill first: Costa Adeje, Playa de las Américas and Los Cristianos. For space, book your where to stay well ahead. The north stays cooler and calmer — the Anaga beaches and Puerto de la Cruz are noticeably emptier. In the daytime heat, a water park is a proven escape.

What's on in August

The carnival and fiestas calendar lists August's highlights — the San Roque celebrations in Vilaflor and Garachico, and the Veranos del Taoro summer programme in Puerto de la Cruz. For electronic music, the Sunblast Festival (8 August) brings two days of techno and house to Golf Costa Adeje. At sea, whale and dolphin trips run daily in calm summer conditions, and sea turtles are regularly seen off the south coast.

Practical tips

Book the Teide cable car and a rental car as early as possible — both sell out. Start beach days before 10am, and treat the packing list as essential: reef-safe sun cream, a light cover-up and a layer for cooler evenings. For the full trip shape, the itinerary guide fits August perfectly.
